Our Story

From a local youth project to a national movement for justice. We are building power, demanding accountability, and healing our communities.

Our Mission

To empower young people to lead the fight for police accountability and racial justice. We create spaces where young people can transform their lived experience into political power through research, organising, and creative action.

Our Vision

A world where young people are safe, respected, and powerful. Where communities are healed from systemic trauma, and where justice is not just an ideal, but a lived reality for everyone in Hackney and beyond.

Our Journey

2012

Post-Riots Commission

Following the London Riots, Hackney CVS was commissioned to set up a young people's stop and search monitoring group.

2013-2017

Building Bridges

The monitoring group delivered 'Know Your Rights' workshops, met with borough commanders, and created opportunities to bridge the gap between youth and police, helping reduce stop and search numbers.

2018

Evolution into Account

Recognizing that stop and search was just one part of the issue, we morphed into 'Account' to tackle all aspects of policing and systemic injustice.

2020

'Policing in Hackney' Report

Published our groundbreaking report revealing systemic issues, featured in major media outlets.

2021

National Expansion

Launched the Community Research program to support youth-led research across the UK.

2023

Account Theatre Launch

Debuted our arts-based organizing work, bringing our stories to stages across London.

2025

New Strategic Vision

Expanded our mission to include B2B services and deeper community healing initiatives.

Our Core Values

Youth-Led

Young people are the experts of their own lives and the leaders of this movement.

Radical Honesty

We speak truth to power and to each other, even when it's uncomfortable.

Community Rooted

Our work begins and ends with the needs and dreams of our community.
